This course is intended to help train structural pest inspectors (SPI) and home inspectors learn how to identify wood-destroying organisms (WDOs) in the state of Washington, and structural conducive conditions that promote wood-destroying activity.

Early bird registrations receive a discounted registration fee of $65.00

Regular registration fees increase to $100.00, 14 days prior to the event.

Cancellation, Refund, and Transfer Policy

If you have changes to this registration, please notify us at pest@wsu.edu or 509-335-2830.

Transfers/substitutions are accepted until 8:00 am on the day of the course.  Transfers are limited to WSU Pesticide Resources and Education courses offered before June 30, 2027 (see pep.wsu.edu for a complete list of courses).

Cancellations with refund requests can be made until 10 days prior to the first day of the course for which you are registered; after that time, course fees are forfeited.

 

There is a cancellation fee of $10 per registration.

  • 08:20 AM – 09:10 AM – Intro to Wood-Destroying Organisms (WDOs) | Corey Chantry
    This presentation will cover how to identify common wood destroying organisms found in the PNW/WA.
    This includes, but not limited to: termites, carpenter ants, and more.
     
  • 09:10 AM – 10:00 AM – Pesticides in The Environment | Larry Stamp
    This presentation will have the students learn about unique cases of homes infested with WDOs.
     
  • 10:00 AM – 10:10 AM – BREAK
     
  • 10:10 AM – 11:00 AM – WSDA Compliance, Laws and Regs | Erik Hodson
    This presentation from WSDA will discuss the state laws and rules related to complete and specific WDO inspections and reports.
     
  • 11:00 AM – 11:50 PM – LUNCH ON YOUR OWN
     
  • 11:50 PM – 1:50 PM – Mock Inspection | All Present Instructors
    This segment of the course will have the students break up into groups and learn how to inspect structures. The locations are the IPM House, graduate student house basement, Allmendinger Conference Center, and Puyallup Conference Room. These locations are all on site at the Puyallup Research and Extension Center
     
  • 1:50 PM – 2:00 PM – BREAK
     
  • 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM – Discuss Findings | All Present Instructors
    This segment of the course will have the students draft their inspection results and discuss with the class what they found and how they would control/manage the discovered issue(s).
     
  • 3:00 PM – 3:30 PM – Course Evaluation and Closing
